Art lessons, and particularly elementary art lessons, are as vast as art itself. The reason is, that unlike more advanced art lessons, that are centered on a certain technique or material, elementary art lessons should give the opportunity to taste all kinds of arts.
Of course when you’re looking for elementary art lessons, it is important who the student is. If the student is an adult, there is the theoretical part of art – like perspective, proportion etc. that can be explained more explicitly, but when the student is a child, especially a young one, the focus of elementary art lessons should be more on experiencing with different techniques and materials. Sometime it may be more similar to a lesson in crafting, and in many ways, that’s also art.
For those who are looking for more professional elementary art lessons, the lessons have to include the basic theoretical material, but that can be done through actual drawing. Drawing is the basis for most arts, like sculpture and painting of all kinds, and therefore
elementary art lessons certainly should include drawing. Through drawing most of the basic theoretical knowledge can be taught, including methods to “transfer” reality into the paper with proper proportions and perspective – the “thumb and pencil method”.
Another common subject to be learnt in elementary art lessons is colors – basic colors,
completing colors the use of colors, the use of shades, mixing colors, the effects of different combinations of colors etc. Of course it is not expected in elementary art lessons to learn the use of different types of paints, most commonly teaching the basics is through acrylics or gouache paints that are more easy to use than others.
Art requires a lot of control over fine motor skill, elementary art lessons can help the student to acquire such control, and actually this is one of the most important achievements of elementary art lessons for preschool kids. While teaching them writing may be too difficult or boring for them (depends on their age), art can help them acquire this ability, required for writing, in a fun way.
At last! You can draw or paint any subject with ease…. Even if you have never drawn or painted before!
Elementary art lessons!
