As women power rise there is a new trend in art, trend that emphasizes maternity and feminine interests and nature. That is newborn portraits, pregnancy portraits and maternity portraits. When I speak of new trend it doesn’t necessarily mean that it is a last month or last year trend, but if you look at history, the only newborn portraits, pregnancy portraits and maternity portraits you can find are of mother Mary and newborn Jesus.

If you look at most of the newborn portraits done in ancient times you will notice that the painters did not use real babies, because the bodily proportions were that of adults and not of a baby. Mary’s pregnancy portraits unlike Jesus newborn portraits were more suitable, the only problem was that generally Mary was forced to hold a lily in her hand and was always surrounded by angels or kings. In any case, these days are gone. A woman doesn’t have to be Mary in order to have pregnancy portraits or maternity portraits, and a newborn doesn’t have to be Jesus in order to have newborn portraits. What may have been more difficult to portrait at the past (because of the need for real models for painting), is much easier now.

There are many ideas for pregnancy portraits, maternity portraits and newborn portraits, and of course most of them are in photographs, that are easier and cheaper to get and to keep. Pregnancy and maternity to a newborn are lasting so short; don’t miss the opportunity to get your pregnancy portraits, and then your maternity portraits and newborn portraits for your baby.
